Sunday Recital Series Features Terra Voce, with Lise Keiter
The Sunday Recital Series at Mary Baldwin College continues with a delightful afternoon of chamber music. On Sunday, November 13 at 3 p.m. in Francis Auditorium, the duo Terra Voce will perform. Terra Voce (flutist Elizabeth Brightbill and cellist Andrew Gabbert) maintains a very active performance schedule throughout the region and beyond. For this concert, they will be joined by pianist Lise Keiter. Keiter and Brightbill are both on the music faculty at Mary Baldwin.
This varied program includes Japanese, Irish, and Brazilian pieces, including several selections from Terra Voce’s latest CD. Also featured are some favorites by American composers, including Aaron Copland’s Duo for Flute and Piano and the Sonata for Cello and Piano by Samuel Barber.
Terra Voce is on the rosters for the Virginia Commission for the Arts Residency Program and Young Audiences of Virginia. They have appeared at the Kennedy Center and were also finalists in the National Flute Association’s Chamber Music Competition.
Committed to new works, Terra Voce has formed a commissioning circle with three other flute/cello duos, and they premiered this consortium’s first commission, Dviraag by Asha Srinivasan, in 2009. Subsequently, they performed this work at the 2010 Society of Composers National Conference, to much acclaim.
Pianist Lise Keiter has performed throughout the United States and overseas, regularly appearing as a soloist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestra. She was recently featured as the concerto soloist with the Waynesboro Symphony, and other recent concert engagements have taken her to Wisconsin, Idaho, West Virginia, Indiana, North Carolina, Maryland, Illinois, South Carolina, and throughout Virginia.
Tickets for the Sunday recital will be available at the door. They are $5 for the general public and $4 for seniors and non-MBC students. (Tickets are free for all Mary Baldwin students, faculty, and staff.) For more information, please visit Music at MBC or call 540-887-7294.
