Boldly Baldwin word mark

Election Night Transforms Campus, Students

Students, faculty, and staff reinvented election night Tuesday with MBC Live Election — executing a live broadcast of election results for the Mary Baldwin campus. Students monitored results in the computer lab in Wenger Hall while on-air anchors delivered results from a newsroom in the Spencer Center. Spectators watched the returns and commentary from on-air guests on a big screen in a packed Miller Chapel. The production brought together voters from both sides of the aisle and reinvigorated students, many of whom were eager to sign up to participate in the next election broadcast. The night was an unmitigated success, said Political Science Professor Laura van Assendelft. “Our students are incredible,” she said. “It was the best part of my 19 years teaching here.”
