Memorial Residence Hall was constructed in 1900 with 16 rooms at a cost of
$12,820.78. Parents were assured that each room would only house two girls
and that they would have separate beds. The building was named Mary Baldwin
Hall in memory of Mary Julia Baldwin, beloved principal of the seminary. However,
the 1902-03 college listed it as "Memorial," and the name stuck. Twelve rooms
were added to Memorial in 1914 at a cost of $12,000. |
