A mother's note found in the 1915-1916 student register:

"?we will have to have an operation on tonsils therefore do not think she will be able to return to school this year. Furthermore, last summer she ran over a man with an automobile; the party is suing for $5,000; the case may come up any day now and for this reason we have to keep her home."

Who We Are - Information for Press Releases

Mary Baldwin College, founded in 1842 as Augusta Female Seminary, is ranked by U.S.News & World Report as a top tier master's level southern university. It offers multiple avenues to achievement through an extraordinary commitment to personalized education, through nationally acclaimed signature programs, through a college-wide focus on civic engagement in a global context, and many other ways.

The Residential College for Women, with a student to faculty ratio of 10:1, serves about 800 young women who reside on campus. The Adult Degree Program offers the same level of personalized education to men and women seeking bachelor's degrees at the main campus as well as five regional centers. MBC's post baccalaureate and graduate offerings include two coeducational programs in education (Post Baccalaureate Teacher Licensure and Master of Arts in Teaching) and one in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in Performance (Master of Letters and Master of Fine Arts), offered in partnership with the American Shakespeare Center.
