Take a drive by Deming Hall on the corner of Prospect and Deming streets and check out the fresh paint on Da and Da, the dog statues that remarkably resemble Ham and Jam (the two dogs on the front pillars of the Administration Building).

Seniors in the Mary Baldwin College art department took advantage of a recent sunny Spring afternoon to update the statues. They laughed over endearing anecdotes about their professors as they painted the statues to resemble Paul Ryan, MBC professor of art, and Jim Sconyers, MBC assistant professor of art.

Da and Da are named for the Dadaist movement in 20th century art. The tradition of painting the sculptures started in 2003 as an activity for graduating seniors in the art department. At the end of each year, the loyal subjects get new coats — of paint!
