How to Present in Francis for Everyone:  Students, Faculty, Staff, Guests:

Using the Francis PC:

  1. Turn the Francis PC on with its power button.
  2. Touch the Crestron control panel anywhere, and answer that you do want to use the projector. (If you only want to use the PC without projecting its picture, answer NO and stop here.)  Press the PC button on the Crestron panel.
  3. Pull out the keyboard drawer to use the black PC keyboard and mouse. Press Ctrl Alt Del and sign on to the blue screen using your MBC ID and NETWORK PASSWORD.
  4. When finished, log out, turn off PC and press Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel to turn projector off.

 

Using the Francis Mac:

  1. Turn the Mac on. Touch the Crestron control panel anywhere, and answer that you do want to use the projector. (If you only want to use the Mac without projecting its picture, answer NO and stop here.)  Choose MAC as input with the Crestron panel.
  2. Pull out the keyboard drawer to use the white MAC keyboard and mouse.
  3. Sign on to the Mac using your MBC ID and NETWORK PASSWORD.
  4. When finished, log out, turn off the MAC and press Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel to turn projector off.

 

Playing a Blu-Ray disc:

  1. Turn the Samsung Blu-ray player ON.
  2. Touch the Crestron control panel anywhere, and answer that you do want to use the projector. Choose Blu-ray as input on the Crestron panel.
  3. Use controls on Crestron panel to control the Blu-ray player.  Use the Vol UP/DOWN arrows to control playback volume.
  4. When finished, turn off the Blu-ray player and press Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel to turn projector off.

 

Playing a DVD or VCR:

  1. Turn the JVC DVD/VCR player ON.
  2. Touch the Crestron control panel anywhere, and answer that you do want to use the projector. Choose DVD/VCR as input with the Crestron panel.
  3. Use controls on Crestron panel to control the DVD/VCR player. Use the Vol UP/DOWN arrows to control volume.
  4. When finished, turn off the DVD/VCR player and press Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel to turn projector off.

 

Use your own Laptop:

  1. Turn the Laptop on.
  2. Choose Laptop as input, then turn the projector ON with the Crestron panel.
  3. Locate the Laptop cables at the lower right of the cabinet.
  4. Plug the Laptop Video cable into the laptop’s 15 pin VGA port.  If your laptop does not have this port, plug the HDMI cable into your Laptop’s HDMI port.  On the Crestron Control Plate, choose VGA or HDMI.
  5. Plug the Laptop Audio cable into the Headphone jack if you are using VGA. Use the Vol UP/DOWN arrows on the Crestron panel to control volume.
  6. When finished, unplug cables and press Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel to turn projector off.

 

Use a boombox / .mp3 player / sound system:

 

  1. Turn the player on.
  2. Locate the Audio Laptop cable at the lower right of the system cabinet.  Plug the Laptop Audio cable into the Headphone jack of the player.
  3. With the Crestron panel, choose Laptop as input. Choose “No” if you don’t need the video projector
  4. Use the Vol UP/DOWN arrows on the Crestron panel to control volume.
  5. When finished, turn off player and unplug cables.

 

Use the Elmo Document Camera

 

  1.  Position the Doc Cam on the cart near the instructor station, and turn on the system and the Doc Cam.
  2.  Plug the Doc Cam video cable that is rolled up in the cabinet near the monitor into the marked connector on the rear panel of the camera base.
  3. Select the Doc Cam icon on the Crestron panel. Select “Yes” to use the projector.
  4. When finished, turn off the Doc Cam, unplug and roll up the cables and put them where you found them. Press Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel to turn projector off.

For Faculty, Staff, and sponsored Guests:

Use the Francis Laptop to control the Francis PC. 

1)      To unlock the Laptop, get the password to the combination look on the hood in the service room from Instructional Technology.

2)      Turn the projector ON and choose PC as input on the Crestron panel.

3)      Open the hood in the service room behind Francis.

4)      Take Laptop from the charger and bring into Francis.

5)      Turn on the Francis PC.

6)      Turn on laptop and connect to the network.

7)      Start Team Viewer from the Laptop:

  1. Control Remote Computer:  (get this number from the Help Desk at the beginning of the semester)  Press Connect
  2. Password:  (get this number from the Help Desk at the beginning of the semester)

8)      Hide the Teamviewer folder by pressing the > tab

9)      DO NOT PRESS press control+alt+delete on the keys of the laptop, Click on the button on the tab at the top of your screen labeled ctl+alt+del.

10)  Log in to the Francis PC from the Laptop using your MBC Pin and Network Password.

11)  Click on the tab at the top of the screen that looks like four arrows pointing away from each other to make the Francis PC full screen.

12)  When finished, Log off of the Francis PC from the Laptop BEFORE you exit Team Viewer by clicking on the Start Menu on the Team Viewer Screen.  Then log out of Team Viewer by clicking on the X at the top left of the screen on the Laptop.  Log out of AND turn off the Laptop and return to the docking station in the hood.  Lock the hood.  Turn the projector OFF by pressing Shut Down and then Yes on the Crestron panel.

 

Using the dedicated Francis wireless microphones

1)      To unlock the microphones, get the password to the combination look on the hood in the service room from Instructional Technology. There are microphone stands in the small plywood closet in the backstage room.

2)      Turn microphone on using the switch on the bottom.  Use the Mic Up/Down arrows on the Crestron panel to adjust volume.

3)      When finished, place the microphone in the charger base with the gold contacts to the rear. Make sure the red light on the charger base comes on or the microphone will not recharge. Lock up the hood.

 

To use the whiteboard while projecting:

If you want to use the upper quarter of the screen for your projected image from the PC and still use the white board at the same time, BEFORE Smartshield is put on, do the following:

  1. Right click on an empty space on the desktop
  2. Choose Personalize, Desktop Background
  3. Choose a picture location of Solid Color and Black.
  4. Save this setting.
  5. Move your icons to the upper left hand quadrant of your desktop.

 

Then when clicking on Show Slide press the Ctrl key.  Then minimize everything else except the Slide Show that is in the upper left quadrant. The empty black desktop will project over the whiteboards, but will not be too noticeable. You can use the whiteboards for your notes.
