Forget

by Jennifer Pence

There are no windows
In this room
I’ve scratched at the
Four white walls
Until red smudges
Of my blood
Appear on them.
The bed is cold
I feel the cracks of the tile
Under my bare feet
When I walk
Pacing back and forth
To forget the voices
To forget the burning
From my broken fingernails
To forget where I am.
