Encourage BAM Sign-up
As we continue in this semester, we are encouraging MBC students, faculty,
and staff to take a few minutes to sign up online for the BAM (Baldwin Alert
Message) system. Timely and direct communication in an emergency is vital
to the safety of our community. Our new BAM system will allow us to do just
that.
I ask that you encourage your daughter to sign up if she has not done so already.
As parents, you cannot sign up for the alerts on your own, but your daughter
may include your telephone number and e-mail when she signs up. She can list
up to six telephone numbers and two e-mail addresses in addition to her MBC
phone and e-mail accounts. Be assured that MBC will guard the security of
the information provided, will not share it with anyone else, and will use
it only for urgent official communications.
In what situations might we use the new BAM alert system? It will be triggered
only by situations where we believe there to be imminent risk to physical
safety: someone brandishing a gun or other deadly weapon, bomb threat, tornado,
terrorist attack, fire, toxic fumes, and the like. While Mary Baldwin’s
record is remarkably free from such dire events, we can never be complacent
where the safety of our community is concerned.
In the coming weeks we will conduct system tests and training. Soon there
will be a full-scale simulation of an emergency situation. It will be important
for as many individuals as possible to have signed up for BAM by that time.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact
us.
