PEG Academics
PEG course requirements are intended to supplement the MBC General
Education Requirements and ensure that students do not have serious
gaps in their education. These requirements include courses in subjects
generally provided in the high school curriculum and may fulfill the
MBC General Education Requirements.
Coursework completed before a student enters PEG is evaluated and
considered for PEG course requirements as appropriate. PEG students
entering after the 8th or 9th grade are expected to complete the following
requirements by the end of their second year at Mary Baldwin:
MBC 101 and 102: Orientation to College (required
for all freshmen)
Humanities
English 101: PEG Intermediate Composition and one additional literature
course (English or American Literature)
Natural Sciences
One biology course and one science course with lab.
Social Sciences
History 101:Western Civilization to 1648
and
History 102: Western Civilization from 1648 or History 240: Revolutionary
Europe or History 245: Twentieth-Century Europe
and
Political Science 100: Introduction to American Government and Politics or Political
Science 111: Comparative Politics
Mathematics
Math 150: College Algebra and one additional math course
Physical Education
PEG only course focusing on health and wellness
International Education
Students are strongly encourage to achieve a minimum proficiency
of one year intermediate level study in a second language.
Service Learning
PEG students are required to complete service-learning projects.
