Student Life

Opportunities at MBC

As MBC students, PEG students have access to the many services and opportunities available on campus.

Health Services

Counseling and Psychological Services
The Counseling and Psychological Services office works closely with the Director of PEG to provide the necessary support for issues often unique to gifted students, such as perfectionism, and to help guide PEG students through any emotional troubles that may arise while away from home for the first time at such a young age.

The Rosemarie Sena Center, Career Development
The Career Development counselors at Rosemarie Sena Center are available to PEG students to work on job-related issues that are common amongst gifted students, such as multipotentiality, and to provide support during the graduate school admissions and job search processes.

Clubs & Organizations
PEG students often participate and take leadership roles in the multiple clubs, organizations, and traditions on campus.

Opportunities at PEG

In addition to the opportunities offered at MBC, PEG offers a variety of programs and events tailored to the interests, academic abilities, and social and emotional needs of gifted girls. Programming changes each year based on student interest. Below are some of the many opportunities that occur regularly at PEG:

Boarding School Social Activities Committee (BSSAC)
As members of BSSAC, PEG students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities with Virginia boarding school students. Activities change each year, but usually include mixers, sporting events, and trips to local amusement and water parks.

Dessert & Dialogues (D&Ds)
D&Ds have recently been incorporated into our program as monthly sessions that encourage our students to explore the world of ideas while getting to know professors and other members of the community in an informal, yet intellectually stimulating, setting. Through D&Ds, PEG students have the chance to meet new people, discuss new perspectives on issues, and share their opinions in an open, safe, non-confrontational setting. Past and future D&Ds include: Urban Legends: Exploring American Studies through the American Psyche, Medical Mysteries, and MBC Super Bowl Advertising.

Creativity Nights
PEG students have the opportunity to exercise their creative muscles as they learn creativity strategies such as SCAMPER and De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats.

International Nights
Inspired by the Lebanese Fulbright Scholar residing in the PEG Center, students have the opportunity to share their culture and their culture’s food with other PEG students and staff at this monthly event.

Squirrels on the Run
Incorporated as a wellness initiative, this informal group meets for social running and walking.
