Description: Put your walking shoes on and prepare for an adventure! Be a part of the excitement of studying art and culture on site!! See what you have studied in the classroom and take it to a deeper level of understanding. This is a rare opportunity to visit major sites and hidden treasures in a small group of friends with seasoned travelers and experts in their fields. These courses of study exceed an introductory tour, for art history, it is the culmination of an art history course of study. Students travel with a small, congenial, well-prepared group. Students participate by giving two presentations each on topics they have researched during the prior semester. They experience Italian life and culture first hand and keep a journal of their experiences and responses to the art. Over the last eighteen years, Dr. James has led over a dozen groups of Mary Baldwin College students to Italy and Northern Europe to study art and architecture in the settings for which the objects were created. This unique and very special course is will not be offered spring 2014 but will be offered in 2015. Plan ahead! Don’t miss this opportunity! Some scholarship funds are available.
