“The Spencer Center is like a second home after my room on campus; between my work-study position and programs at the center, sometimes I am there all day. As a Spencer Citizen, I have built a wide network of international and local people, which will be very beneficial for future internships, jobs, and volunteer positions.”

Leadership Gateways

The Spencer Citizens Gateway

  1. Why become a Spencer Citizen? Spencer Citizens have a passion for service whether on a local or a global scale. You want to be an active member of your college community. You enjoy multi-cultural experiences and may expect to travel within and beyond the borders of the United States as your education unfolds. Spencer citizens are agents of change, understanding that at the heart of leadership is service to others.

  2. Who may apply?  All students in the Residential College for Women may apply to be a Spencer Citizen. Commitment to making a difference is the only requirement.

  4. What extra-curricular activities will I be participating in? You will engage in community service and you will assist the staff of the Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement with the programs they sponsor throughout the year.

  5. Where will I live?  You will live in Spencer Residence Hall where you will meet other first year students who are Spencer Citizens. Commuter students are welcome.

  6. Meet the Staff: Dr. Steve Grande is director of civic engagement and Heather Ward serves as director of International programs. They will help you plan your participation through the Spencer Center.
