As we compose our future, we recognize and incorporate certain essential values that Mary Baldwin has maintained since its founding in 1842. These values include:

  • academically rigorous teaching and learning grounded in the liberal arts;
  • critical and creative thinking; developing the whole person for lifelong learning;
  • the empowerment of women at all stages of life;
  • leadership and entrepreneurial innovation’ cooperation and service within a diverse community; and
  • honor and integrity as a basis for student government and college leadership.

We have been able to adhere to these values as we continue to nurture and expand our core strengths: a Presbyterian heritage that respects and supports religious exploration; a history of working with traditional and non-traditional aged students; a committed and collegial faculty, staff, and administration; a dedicated network of alumnae, alumni, parents, and friends; personal interaction; evolving college traditions; and the historic beauty and cultural richness of Staunton and the Shenandoah Valley

This will be the future of Mary Baldwin College. Can you see it?
