About our staff and services
The director of Counseling and Psychological Services is Nadia Kuley,
Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist who has served at Mary Baldwin
College since 1987. Mary Baldwin College also has contracted the
staff of Drs. Kuley, Ryan and Associates, P.C. to provide counseling
for students. The staff of Drs. Kuley, Ryan and Associates, P.C.
have expertise in a variety of areas of psychological difficulty,
such as depression, anxiety disorders, sexual abuse, relationship
problems, and grief work. In addition, students will be offered expanded
hours for scheduling, including evening hours and Saturday appointments.
Dr. Kuley and her associates will provide four free session for students
during the academic year. If a student requires more than four sessions,
they will have to discuss payment for services (insurance and Medicaid
accepted) or discuss referral alternative (community services which
offer a sliding scale; unlimited free of charge group therapy session,
etc.)
Recognizing the need for counseling and psychological
services
During your college years, you may encounter a variety of stressors,
which may be related to your academic experience, family, social, and
financial situations. Our mission is to help you cope with stress and
to treat psychological difficulties in order to promote your success
at Mary Baldwin College.
We provide services for a wide variety of difficulties, including:
- Stress management
- Depression
- Eating disorders
- Alcohol and other substance abuse/addiction
- Grief and loss
- Relationship conflict
- Procrastination
- Self esteem
- Adult children of alcoholics
- Sexual Assault
- Crisis intervention
- Individual time-limited counseling
- Group therapy
- Mental health programs for students, faculty, and staff
- Consultation and training to resident advisors, staff, and faculty
regarding student mental health needs
- Referral to off-campus mental health providers and community agencies
Where we are located
Counseling and Psychological Services is located in Blakely House,
second floor. Students may be provided services on campus or at the
office of Drs. Kuley, Ryan and Associates, P.C. located approximately
5 minutes from campus. Students who need to be seen off campus may
either use our on-campus transportation programs or their own transportation.
In certain cases, students may also be given taxi vouchers.
Scheduling an appointment
To schedule an appointment, please contact Donna Duff, the office administrator
for Counseling and Psychological Services and the Health Center.
Ms. Duff will assist you in scheduling with a therapist based on
your needs and schedule. She can be reached on camps at 540-887-7281.
Confidentiality
Any information shared by a student will be held in strict confidence.
Professional standards for therapists mandate that no information,
including the fact that a student is seen by Counseling and Psychological
Services can be released without written permission by the student.
Exceptions to this confidentiality policy are made as a result of
legal requirements to report:
- A danger of harm to yourself or others
- The abuse or neglect of a child or depended adult
- In cases of court involvement, your treatment record may be obtained
by a judicial order
- Information regarding your treatment, date of service, and diagnosis
will be released to your insurance company if you choose to have
our office file your insurance claims.
