Major/Minor Course Requirements
Minor: 18 semester hours, including ANTH 120 and ANTH 121; a minimum of 9 hours from ANTH 202, ANTH 208, ANTH 220, and ANTH 244, or any anthropology course from another college/university; and a minimum of 3 hours from AS/REL 212, AS 244, AS 246, AS 247, AS 248, AS 251, AS 253, AS 256, AS/SOC 270, FREN 261, FREN 262, FREN 255, POLS 249, SPAN 230, SPAN 231
Major: 36 semester hours total.
Must choose one of two tracks:
Anthropology/Sociology (anthropology emphasis),
or Sociology/Anthropology (sociology emphasis).
Both emphases include the following 24 credit hours: ANTH 120, ANTH 121, ANTH 220, SOC 112, SOC 222, SOC 248, and SOC 320; and either/or Anthropology course at W & L, MBC May Term Abroad.
In addition, the Anthropology/Sociology track requires ANTH 400 (Senior Seminar and thesis) as well as 6 credit hours from the following: ANTH 202, ANTH 208, ANTH 244, ANTH 2xx and 3 credit hours from the following: SOC 254, SOC 264, or SOC 284 . In the Anthropology/Sociology major, students will meet the senior requirement by completing ANTH 400 in the World Languages, Literatures and Cultures Department (Div. I) [21 total hours in Anthropology/15 in Sociology]
The Sociology/Anthropology track also requires SOC 400 (Senior Seminar and Thesis) as well as 6 credit hours from the following: SOC 254, SOC 264, or SOC 284 and 3 credit hours from the following: ANTH 202, ANTH 208, ANTH 244, ANTH 2xx.
In the Sociology/Anthropology major, students will meet the senior requirement by completing SOC 400 in the Sociology Department (Div. II), and an interdisciplinary thesis. [21 total hours in Sociology/15 in Anthropology]
