Arts Management

The arts management major provides the student whose field of interest is art, music, or theatre with skills in management appropriate for positions in arts organizations or for graduate study in arts management.

Major in Arts Management

45 semester hours
Required courses:

  • BUAD 200 Management Principles
  • BUAD 208 Accounting Principles
  • BUAD 230 Marketing Principles
  • COMM 100 Public Speaking
  • COMM 260 Principles of Public Relations
  • ECON 101 Principles of Microeconomics
  • ARTM 387/388 Internship
  • Senior Project in area of concentration
  • Required courses for area of concentration, as noted below
  • One course in each of the other two concentrations

Note: ECON 102 is strongly recommended, especially for students planning to pursue graduate studies in business.

Concentration in Art

21 semester hours
Required courses:

  • ARTM 340 Museum Studies
  • INT 103 Information Literacy
  • One course in studio art
  • ARTH 400 Senior Project in Art History
  • Three ARTH courses at the 200 level or above

Two of the following:

  • ARTH 101 Survey of Western Art: The Ancient World
  • ARTH 102 Survey of Western Art: Medieval and Renaissance Worlds
  • ARTH 103 Survey of Western Art: The Modern World

Note: ENG 251 Technical and Professional Writing is encouraged but not required.

Concentration in Music

21 semester hours
Required courses:

  • MUS 100 Introduction to Listening
  • MUS 111 Music Theory I
  • MUS 402 Senior Thesis
  • At least 12 semester hours of music electives, including at least two three-credit music courses at the 200 level

Note: A music minor is recommended for this concentration.

Concentration in Theatre

21 semester hours
Required courses:

  • One course in theatre literature or history
  • One course in theatre techniques
  • Two additional theatre courses
  • THEA 401 Senior Project

One of the following:

  • THEA 101 Plays in Performance
  • THEA 208 London Theater

One of the following:

  • THEA 114 Introduction to Drama: Classical to Renaissance
  • THEA 115 Introduction to Drama: Restoration to the Present
