BA/MLitt at Mary Baldwin College

What is the 3/2 program?

The BA/MLitt couples the strengths of the undergraduate theatre major with the unique MLitt/MFA program and offers students an intense, five-year immersion in arts and letters. MBC’s undergraduate theatre and MLitt/MFA programs offer a unique initiative that enables a student to earn a BA in theatre and MLitt (Master of Letters) in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in Performance in five academic years. (Earning the two degrees in the normal manner would take six years or more.)

Following a rigorous schedule of prescribed courses, undergraduate theatre majors begin their MLitt courses in their fourth year and complete the graduate degree by the end of their fifth academic year at MBC. Students may apply for admission to the MFA in their second year of the MLitt program.

In addition to the accelerated degree program, students enjoy a seamless transition from their undergraduate to their graduate careers.

While undergraduates must meet the same admission standards as other MLitt applicants, they can forego the formal application process and undergo instead a review of their transcripts and their portfolio accompanied by a personal interview.
