Geographic Location
MBC is located in the Shenandoah Valley. With the Blue Ridge Mountains to our east, and North Mountain to our west, we have over 2,000 feet of change in elevation to work with. The high buffering from limestone/dolomite bedrock in the valley contrasts with the quartz and greenstone ridges, which provide no buffering for acid rain in the mountains.

Wilderness Area
MBC is located in the Shenandoah Valley, equidistant from the 6,518 acre Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness to the west, and the 9,835 acre St. Mary’s Wilderness to the east. In addition to the Washington Jefferson National Forest, we also make use of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Shenandoah National Park for field studies.
