Why major in communication?
- Students develop the ability to develop their skills and to practice
conducting independent research in their area of choice in the field
of communication.
- Students learn the skills to complete a senior thesis or project
that serves as an invaluably strong preparation for professional
challenges and advanced graduate work.
- Students work one-on-one with production instructors and have
direct access to film and editing equipment.
- Students write media style work that often appears in campus publications
and on the college's web site, as well as in local media. Professors
provide individualized, one-on-one writing instruction for writing
emphasis courses taught in the discipline.
- Students integrate classroom learning with practice by working
directly with members of the local communities in service learning
organizations and through supervised internships in different areas
of communication.
- Students have the opportunity to take a communication course abroad
with department faculty to develop greater intercultural competence
in an increasingly complex world.
- Students develop their public and group presentation skills in
almost all communication courses at MBC. Our students practice what
we teach -- the art of public speaking -- and get supportive instruction
in this vital skill.
