Why major in French at MBC?

French is spoken by over 220 million people worldwide, and is spoken on five continents. It continues to be considered a language of world-wide importance.  Take a look at this interactive map to see where French is spoken (as an official language or not): http://www.francophonie.org/-Etats-et-gouvernements-.html (Organisation internationale de la francophonie)

Successful majors in French navigate well in the four skills of communication — speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They demonstrate their proficiency by studying in a Francophone country for May Term, a semester, or a year. Such experience opens up opportunities for cultural exchange, work, etc. in regions on four continents. In addition, the French major is a literary major. Students have a foundation not only in classic works of French literature but also in important works by modern Francophone authors of the Caribbean, Quebec, west Africa, and elsewhere. Successful majors complete a senior thesis written in French and treat a literary or cultural topic of interest to them.
