The Carpenter Lecture at Mary Baldwin College

The Carpenter Lecture is a prestigious annual event. The lecture is the “continuation” of 10 Carpenter Conferences held at the college from 1990-1999. In recent years individuals have come to the campus to offer lectures on leading issues in the health care field. These speakers have included Pierre Duplessis, MD, Secretary General and CEO of the Red Cross of Canada; Robert Stroube, MD, Commissioner, Department of Health, Commonwealth of Virginia; Carolyn Clancy, MD, Director, Agency for Health, Research, and Quality; Kaveh Shojania, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and co-author of the book Internal Bleeding; and Richard Heinzl, MD, founder of Doctors Without Borders, Canada. All of the presentations focus on a specific issue that is not only relevant to the moment, but has long term implications for health care decision makers.
