Academics at MBC

Peggy Ankney
Peggy Ankney came to MBC in 2001 with six years of teaching
experience in Michigan and South Carolina. Her PhD from the University
of Central Florida involved the study of how laser light incident on
semiconductor quantum wells affect optical properties such as transmission.
Her current research involves a collaboration with UVa chemist Ian
Harrison, in which she participates in theoretical and experimental
studies of catalysis reactions of hydrocarbons on metal surfaces. At
Mary Baldwin, besides teaching physics, she is a freshmen PEG advisor
and the faculty advisor for the physics honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma.
In her spare time, Peggy likes to run. She has completed seven road marathons and two ultramarathons. Her latest accomplishment is the Promise Land Ultra, a 50k+ trail race in the hills near Lynchburg, which she finished in just under nine hours. She is a tree-hugging vegetarian environmentalist who is quick to encourage students to recycle their aluminum cans and take the stairs instead of the elevator. She lives with her husband, a musician and teacher, and three cats.
