Major/Minor Course Requirements

All courses in the department have their foundation in the intellectual history of the discipline, major theoretical writings, and the concepts used for organizing empirical findings and subject matter. Courses introduce students to the concepts common to all sociological inquiry in the discipline as well as to concepts specific to special sub‑areas. Each course considers social structure, process, and change in the social world by providing the student with an understanding of how structural arrangements influence human behavior. Finally, specific courses focus on research, theory, community service, and social inequality.

The Departments of Sociology and World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offer a combined major with two tracks: Anthropology/Sociology and Sociology/Anthropology.

The Departments of Sociology and Psychology offer an interdisciplinary major with two tracks: Sociology/Psychology and Psychology/Sociology.
