Submission Guidelines

We seek full-length and one-act plays and musicals, both new plays and translations, that:

  • Offer two or more strong roles for women age 15 - 40 or so.
  • Afford more roles for women than men.
  • Deal honestly with contemporary issues of interest to women.
  • Avoid inessential vulgar language or situations.
  • Can be staged simply, without heavy settings or multiple realistic locales.
  • Are carefully structured and tightly written.

We cannot use: plays with eleborate production requirements, plays about the shenanigans of young women in an earlier era, plays for or about children, plays that run longer than 1.75 hours, play texts longer than 60 pages.

Please submit synopsis, character list, and the first three or four pages of the text. We will request the whole text if needed. Please know that we are a small college theatre department, and so we have limited time for reading new work. It may be months before you hear from us, and your telephoning to inquire the status of your submission will only use time that we could spend reading your play or someone else's. We produce a new full-length play every couple of years--as often as one appeals to our directors and meets our needs. We produce five to ten short plays in alternate seasons, and are pleased if any or all are new. If you are able to leave your play in our hands as directors come and go, your play is more likely to be produced than if you must have a response and your script returned immediately.
