Sam is a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel who has worked in theatres all across the United States. He is currently the technical director for the Theatre Department, a production associate at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Virginia, and a director and producer for Oak Grove Theater in Verona, Virginia.
Adjunct Asstistant Professor of Film, Director of Film Minor, and Director of Studios Allan Moyé has taught communication courses at Mary Baldwin College for nine years, including video production classes, film studies, screenwriting, and broadcasting. He received his undergraduate degree from East Carolina University. He studied screenwriting at Georgetown University and UCLA, filmmaking at the New York Film Academy, and has had extensive training in audio production. He earned his MFA in Drama/Communications from the University of New Orleans, in which program he studied under filmmaker Miroslav Mandic in Prague, Czech Republic.
Moyé also teaches screenwriting for the University of New Orleans’ Low Residency MFA program and has been an instructor at UNO’s Summer Seminars in Madrid, Spain.
He is a two-time recipient of the Governor’s Award for Screenwriting at the Virginia Festival of American Film and has won awards from America’s Best Screenplay competition and the Wisconsin Screenwriter’s Forum. Two of his narrative screenplays, “The Blue Man” and “The Good Neighbor” have been optioned in Hollywood. Moyé has produced and directed various short films and been a contributor to many narrative and documentary projects. He is front man and songwriter for the rock ‘n roll band, The Findells.
Assistant Professor Janna Segal received her PhD in Drama and Theatre from the UC Irvine/UC San Diego joint doctoral program, her MA in Theatre from Cal State University, Northridge, and
her BA in Theater Arts from UC Santa Cruz. Prior to joining Mary Baldwin College, Dr. Segal
was an IHUM Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. Her dissertation, Shakespearean-Becomings: Transversal Explorations of Amorous Desire on the Shakespearean Stage, is an
analysis of the transversal representation of amorous desire in Shakespeare’s theatre and its
historical impact on Western cultures through critical and dramatic reconceptualizations. She
has published single and co-authored articles on Othello, Romeo and Juliet, The Roaring Girl, As You Like It, and Dario Fo and Franca Rame’s Elisabetta. Janna is also a dramaturg whose
production work includes Shakespeare (As You Like It), Shakespearean adaptation (Love’s Fire),
and contemporary theatre (Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice).
Theresa K. Southerington ’72
Theresa K. Southerington, professor of theatre, is an alumna of Mary Baldwin College. She holds the MA and MFA degrees in theatre from the University of Virginia, as well as the MS is mathematics from James Madison. Her primary field is costume, and she studied authentic Elizabethan costume practice at London’s Globe Theatre. Her designs are frequently seen onstage at the Blackfriars Playhouse and Ash Lawn Opera. Ms. Southerington teaches acting and directing as well as the technical and design courses: basic production, costume, makeup, stagecraft, scene design, and lighting. She has an extensive resume of acting and directing ranging from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams, and Noel Coward to modern British farce.
