Women’s Institute for Leadership at Mary Baldwin College is the world’s
only all-female cadet corps. Its mission from the beginning has been to provide
an unparalleled opportunity for young women to develop skills, discipline, and
character they need to succeed as principled and contributing citizens and leaders
in their communities and chosen careers.
VWIL has earned a reputation nationally as a premier leadership development program for women and has become a model of success for other programs with similar aims. In the VWIL program you learn about leadership and you develop as a leader. The foundation for leadership preparation is a liberal arts education. The heart of leadership development is the training you receive in the Corps of Cadets, in ROTC, and in the governance of your class. Physical training, sports, and the leadership challenge program round out the VWIL experience.
