Dr. Bryant Memorial Walk/Run Dr. Brenda Bryant battled cancer off and on for some time before her death in August 2012. As all of us know, she loved the Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership — VWIL was her life. During the past 18 years she worked with us, she always ensured that the Corps was at the forefront of all her concerns. Three weeks before she passed away, she asked General Bissell please not to make a big scene about her departure. Though her passing was quiet, she left a tremendous mark on everybody that had anything to do with her. She was restrained, solemn, and very private about her own life and what she was doing. It has been very difficult for all of us to carry on and keep our promise to her. We had the great privilege of getting to know her and her views on the Corps. She loved VWIL to the bitter end. Prior to her death, Dr. Bryant served as vice president for enrollment management and student life and as dean of students. As director of VWIL since its founding in 1995, Dr. Bryant carried out responsibilities that included planning, policy making, and assessment. She was particularly noted for her compassion, interest in the development and success of every cadet, and physical fitness. VWIL will honor her by hosting the Brenda Bryant Memorial 5K Run/Walk, which will be held on March 23, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Gypsy Hill Park. For further details and preregistration, see the Brenda Bryant Memorial Registration Form . For additional information or questions, contact the VWIL office at 540-887-7042 .
