- Why Women for Healthy
Lifestyles? This community is for students who place
a priority on a healthy and active lifestyle. You may already
practice this lifestyle or you want to make a change as you transition
to college.
- Who may apply? All
who wish to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle and also wish to
help others attain this lifestyle are invited to apply.
- Will I take classes as part of the community? In
addition to your academic schedule you also will take:
- MBC 101: Orientation to College (1 credit)
- PHE 100: Fitness (1 credit)
- What extra-curricular activities will
I be participating in? You will participate in health awareness
activities and will plan the Girls and Women’s Health Fair
and Wellness Walk in conjunction with the Women’s Health Virginia. You
may also volunteer with the Women’s Health Initiative. You
will also get a personalized fitness and wellness assessment.
- Where will I live? You will be
assigned to Woodson Residence Hall where you will meet other students
who have an active lifestyle priority. Commuter students are welcome,
as well.
- Meet the staff. Irene Sarnelle,
associate professor of health and physical education, will be your community
leader. Other faculty and staff in the Athletics and Wellness department
will also be your guides.
- Beyond the First Year. Continued
work as Wellness mentors on campus. Assist the next freshman Women
for Healthy Lifestyles community with programming.
- How do I apply? Talk with
your admissions counselor and let her know this choice is for you.
“At MBC, I have become more aware of my health as well as
how important it is to be involved in something outside of academics.
Playing volleyball since my freshman year has developed my leadership
and wellness.”
