Coaching and Exercise Leadership
The minor in coaching and exercise leadership is designed to prepare students for coaching at the youth, club, scholastic, or college level. The minor includes course work that covers each of the eight domains included in the Standards and Competencies for Sport Coaches as outlined by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. (NASPE) and prepares students to test for certification that is now required for high school coaches in Virginia.
As part of the minor, students must complete an internship approved by the physical health and exercise discipline. For students who wish to pursue personal training, athletic training, exercise science, physical therapy, or occupational therapy, the internship can be completed in that job field. The internship experience can also include coaching at the youth, club, scholastic, or college level. Students must complete CEL 220 before they begin their internship.
Coaching and exercise leadership is a part of MBC’s School of Education, Health, and Social Work.
