Food Bank > Small Grant, Big Results for Local Hunger Projects
Five hundred dollars doesn't sound like much in the world of non-profit grants, but a group at Mary Baldwin College is stretching every penny of a recent award from Youth Serve America (YSA) and Sodexo Foundation to combat hunger in our area.

Sue Marion > Longtime MBC Art Instructor Ready for Retirement
For the first time in nearly 50 years, Sue Marion is going to be able to relax this summer. That is, if you call entertaining her 11 (soon to be 12) grandchildren, spending time with her children, and traveling to her "little place of 'heaven on earth' in the Adirondack Mountains," relaxing.

apple > IF YOU DO THREE THINGS THIS MONTH …
  • GIVE BACK: How great would it be to know that you were one of the generous donors who helped Mary Baldwin reach its Annual Fund goal for 2010–11 and put the college on solid financial footing for another year? The fundraising team is inching closer and closer to securing the $1.45 million needed to keep MBC thriving. You can be the difference between "almost" and "all the way" by contributing to the Annual Fund at www.mbc.edu/giving or 1-800-MBC-4ALL by June 30.
  • START PLANNING: Virginia's apple trees are already laden with fruit, and we need you to be part of Apple Day celebrations with Squirrels nationwide. The Office of Alumnae/i and Parent Relations challenges alumnae/i to organize at least 12 events around the country. Contact Jennifer Kibler to share your ideas and coordinate events.
  • GET REGISTERED: There is a surprise in store for the 1,000th person who registers at Baldwin Connect. Sign up today to start reading and submitting class notes, connecting with classmates, and contributing to our career network.
Summer 2011 Magazine > GET MORE FROM YOUR MAGAZINE: When you're finished perusing the printed pages of The Mary Baldwin College Magazine (arriving soon), check out the online site for more features, including a video of recent biology graduate April Lao, photo galleries, links, and a forum to share your memories of Clinton, the unofficial MBC mascot. New content will be posted when the magazine is mailed!
Credit Card > CREDIT CARD CHANGE: Thank you to those of you who have an MBC credit card. Your loyal support over the years has been important and appreciated. Many companies are streamlining their business practices and Bank of America has chosen to end their partnership with Mary Baldwin College. We are in the process of looking into other credit card company affinity offers. Those of you who currently have Mary Baldwin credit cards will still be serviced as before, but a percentage of your purchases will no longer benefit the college. Thank you again for your loyalty, and look for information soon about a new way to contribute.

  ALUMNAE/I POLL: WISE WOMEN
The theme for the 2011–12 academic year is Wisdom, and we want to know who the wise women are in your lives. Are you inspired by the lives of women of the past? Have you learned valuable lessons from those in your family? Do great authors, artists, or businesswomen impart wisdom to you? Send us your story for a chance to be included in the fall 2011 issue of The Mary Baldwin College Magazine.
