Mary Baldwin College was selected among hundreds of applicants to participate in the inaugural year of the White House program, launching a project that will unite people of diverse faiths to address one of the Staunton area's most serious social issues: food insecurity.

The college test prep and admissions consulting company selected 629 schools in four U.S. regions, representing only 25 percent of the nation's four-year colleges. They took into account the strength of each school's academic programs and what students attending those schools have said about their campus experiences.

  The New York Times > MBC Alumna Among First to Wed in NY Same-Sex Ceremony
Linda Lou Mussmann and Claudia Mignon Bruce are to be married on Sunday morning, just after midnight, by Mayor Richard Scalera of Hudson, N.Y., at Time & Space Limited, a theater and performing arts space there. Cheryl A. Roberts, a town justice of Austerlitz, N.Y., is to take part in the ceremony.

  Hungry Ghosts > August 28–September 23
Art Exhibition: Hungry Ghosts

The work of Washington D.C.-based artist Helen Frederick features fragile, translucent, and layered materials that reference the unfulfilled souls of those whose lives on earth have been unjustly cut short. Opening reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. August 28. The work will remain on exhibit through September 23 inside MBC's Hunt Gallery.
