The Council for Advancement and Support of Education presented Mary Baldwin College with a grand award this month for its Ever Ahead website for top recognition of a fundraising website or microsite.

The milestone follows other recent successes of the BSW program, including the launch a successful international social work field placement, the establishment of a chapter of the social work honor society, and the expansion of its adult degree offerings around the state.

 
  Democracy Cup > Live Election Leads to Award
The Campus Election Engagement Project has awarded MBC the Democracy Cup for its Live Election Broadcast in November. The award includes a cash prize to help finance college coverage of this fall's gubernatorial election.

Health Care Administration major Annalisse Vasquez Soto provides a first-hand account of a recent trip to Perquin, El Salvador, where she joined a team of ophthalmologists to help treat the people of the region.

The college-wide theme, introduced in 2007–08, provides a way to further unite and enrich the MBC community. The inaugural subject was Voices, followed by Maps, Heart, Power, Wisdom, and the current topic, Place. The college will explore Courage in 2013–14 and Roots the following year.

Karen Bailey was a member of the first class of cadets in the Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership at Mary Baldwin. It was and continues to be the only all-female cadet corps in the nation, and one that is poised to expand.

MBC will host a conversation with David Wharton, director of documentary studies and assistant professor of southern studies at the University of Mississippi. His latest book, Small Town South, is the result of his extensive travels and photography throughout the region. Noon, Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement.
