The Latino Culture Gateway enhances one of Mary Baldwin’s greatest strengths: diversity. Students in this first-year Gateway explore the history and heritage of Latino culture, assist in planning events for Hispanic Heritage Month, and work with upper-class students involved in the on-campus group Latinas Unidas. Music, art, and literature help shape Gateway activities and participants are encouraged to enroll in related courses, such as U.S. Latino Literature and Culture and Spanish language classes. A section of MBC 101 is specifically designed for those students who are members of the Latino Culture Gateway.
The Gateway also provides support for those Latina students and their families who may have difficulty connecting with college faculty and staff and adapt to life on campus. Resources are provided for parents in both Spanish and English.

As a Latina, expressing my roots is very important. Sometimes as a college student and being away from home, it is not always an easy task. Mary Baldwin has embraced me completely and has provided me with various opportunities to get an excellent education, all the while allowing me to be in touch with what is dearest to me — my culture.
