Need help applying for financial aid? On February 9, Mary Baldwin College will host Super Saturday, an annual event during which students and families can receive free guidance and help completing an application for financial aid.
Super Saturday is sponsored by the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA), an organization of individuals who administer financial aid programs or who are otherwise active in a financial aid-related profession. The focus of the session will be filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FASFA, a form used by colleges, universities, and career-technical schools to determine eligibility for federal and state student aid. The goal of Super Saturday is for students to leave with completed FASFA forms.
“Filling out the FASFA can be difficult if you are clueless about the process,” said MBC junior KaWanda Temple. “Having an event like this on campus will be very helpful to those who haven’t seen these forms before.”
VASFAA hosts more than 40 Super Saturday events across the commonwealth of Virginia. The local Super Saturday site rotates each year between Mary Baldwin, James Madison University, Eastern Mennonite University , Bridgewater College, and Blue Ridge Community College.
Computers will be available in MBC’s Grafton Library for students and parents to apply electronically for federal aid and financial aid experts will be on site to answer questions between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Presentations will be offered at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to discuss federal and state financial aid processes.
Participants are asked to bring the following documents to the event:
- U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Social Security numbers
- Driver’s license (if available)
- 2012 W-2 forms
- 2012 federal income tax return
- 2012 untaxed income records
- Current bank statements, business and investment mortgage information
- Business and farm records, stock, bond and other investment records
- Alien registration card (If not a U.S. citizen)
As an incentive for attending Super Saturday, one participant at the Mary Baldwin site will receive a $100 book scholarship that can be used at the winner’s college of choice.
This event is sponsored by VASFAA and funded in part by the College Access Challenge Grant Program.
