Dr. Fox has served as President and Professor of Music at Mary Baldwin College since July 2003. A pianist and musicologist, upon taking office she immediately launched a comprehensive process to co-create with the entire MBC community an innovative strategic plan for the next 10 years, Composing Our Future: Mary Baldwin College 2014. In 2013 and 2014, she led the college’s development of a new strategic plan, Mary Baldwin 2020, which envisions an institution with a host of programs that carry forth its historic legacy and values in alignment with emerging opportunities and markets.
Under Dr. Fox’s leadership, MBC has committed to inclusive community, upholding the cherished traditions as a leading woman’s college, cultivating innovation and academic excellence, enhancing civic engagement and global citizenship, and building campus and facilities for the future. Under her leadership the college created the Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement, established 19 new and enhanced academic programs, and launched the $80 million comprehensive fundraising campaign, Ever Ahead, expected to culminate in 2015. She was instrumental in bringing the Heifetz International Music Institute to Staunton in 2012, with a new home on the Mary Baldwin campus for six weeks each summer. She led the feasibility study and planning to launch the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences, which opened in 2014 on a new campus in the heart of Augusta County’s thriving Blue Ridge Life Sciences corridor and offers Mary Baldwin’s first doctoral degrees.
Active nationally in higher education and a devoted leader in the Staunton/Augusta community, Dr. Fox was named the 2011 Citizen of the Year by the Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU); past chair of the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV); immediate past chair of the Virginia Foundation of Independent Colleges (VFIC); trustee of the Frontier Culture Museum, of the American Shakespeare Center, and of the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library; and member of Rotary International. Most recently she was appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of the American Council on Education (ACE) as a representative of NAICU institutions.
Prior to her tenure at Mary Baldwin, Dr. Fox served as a Professor of Music, Dean and Assistant Vice President for Strategic Planning at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio for 20 years. She studied at the Hochschüle für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Hamburg, Germany and earned her B.M. in piano performance and Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music as well as the M.M. in music history from the University of Cincinnati.
